THE PROJECT

I had a blast geeking out at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, grabbing as much video footage as I could.  There is still a lot of Galaxy’s Edge I didn’t have time to capture, which means I’ll just have to plan another trip!  I am blown away by the epic production design of the space; it truly is camera ready, brimming with character.  Using my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, I wanted to create a montage that acts as an ode to all of the hard work Disney Imagineers put into making this space come to life. So, I waited until 10 minutes before the park closed to capture this with as little folks as possible in the footage, except for my daughter at the end 🙂  The Disney security were very patient as they walked me out being the last visitor in the park.  I did so with a Fuzzy Taun Taun as my night cap!  This video shares a glimpse into the night experience, so I aptly name it “A Night In Batuu”.

This personal project served as a bench test for the BMPCC 4K’s ability to handle dark environments and it did so with flying colors.  Not only did the colors hold up, but also the sheer lack of noise commonly present with most video camera footage is truly amazing.  I did not have a gimbal with me, so I had to rely on a “marching band” style of walking in order to maintain as much stability as possible.  In the end, I am pleased with how some of the footage looks like it could have been B roll shot for either a Star Wars Disney + show or perhaps a Behind The Scenes Star Wars documentary.
